XXV JUMILLA WINE QUALITY CONTEST
The Jumilla Wine Quality Contest celebrates its XXVth edition this week. To honour this competition, Bodegas Bleda will participate in the organized activities and events which are designed to achieve a greater participation of the general public.
We have to mention as a novelty the retrospective exhibition of the Jumilla D.O Wines Quality Contest “25 years rewarding the quality of Jumilla P.D.O wines”. Bodegas Bleda has contributed with some of its numerous medals and awards, linked to the creation of the D.O Jumilla itself. We are pioneers on using the glass bottle to commercialize our wines. We were also one of the wineries which made the greatest effort to the Designation of Origin recognition, as an essential step to consolidate the world fame of these noble land wines.
This exhibition can be visited all the week in the Jumilla Wine Interpretation Center called “El Arsenal”. Bodegas Bleda has donated some of its Castillo de Jumilla historical labels where we can observe the evolution of their traditional designs over the years.
In addition, there will be a popular tasting on Thursday afternoon, June 13, conducted by Salvador Manjón and Andrés Proensa. The admission fee will be entirely destined for the Association of Physically Handicapped of Jumilla (AMFIJU). This tasting will be broadcast live on social networks as well as on the local television of Jumilla and Yecla.
Jumilla D.O.P. Regulation Council wants with this Quality Contest to continue its evolution by valuing the quality of the wines of this Designation. The Contest has grown throughout these 25 years, passing from 3 categories in its first edition to 8 today.
It is the first contest for Silvano Garcia, president of the Jumilla D.O.P Regulation Council, who we want to congratulate on the organization of this Quality Contest. We also want to emphasise his good decision on changing the date contest to June, because this means a greater suitability for tasting Jumilla D.O red wines.
Jumilla wines receive all the attention throughout this week. The key days of the professional tastings will be Wednesday and Thursday morning. The poster this year is made up of 20 professionals such as columnists, tasters from the HORECA channel as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and from Murcia and Castilla-La Mancha regional authorities.
